Wood for Haiti from Montana USA

Dr. Gary Funk - November 13 2011, 10:03 PM

Dear President Martelly,

First, I express my condolences to your country for the recent loss of your Minister of Culture and voice my concerns about the helicopter accident that nearly killed your Prime Minister Garry Conille and several other cabinet members.

Sir, I am the President of an organization called Wood for Haiti that originates from Montana in the U.S.A. We have been working with close to 200 Haitian organizations for the past year. We propose to use wood from our abundant forests here in Montana to build 180,000 wood-framed hurricane/earthquake resistant homes and 500 community centers throughout Haiti.

We also plan to bring building advisory teams to teach Haitian trades people to build with wood. I will be in Haiti from January 3-9, 2012 and would like to speak with you and the Prime Minister about our project during my visit to Haiti.

The following Haitians have been most active in working to develop strong Haitian support for WFH: Pierre Alexis, Woody Bouilly, Jean Germain, Andre Patrick Jeudy, Rony Blanc, Louis Ledor, Joseph Eliphete and others.

We have endorsements from our US congressional Montana delegation and former President Clinton has seen a draft of our proposal and given us the "Green Light" to visit with Francesca Lubrano (Shelter Policy Director), Priscilla Phelps (Sr. Advisor to the IHRC).

I have been in good communications with Mark D'Sa (Sr. Advisor for Industrial Development) and Richard Warren (Haiti National Police).

With greatest respect for Haiti, I appreciate any consideration you may give to this request.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gary Funk
President
