Haitian Diaspora Contributions to Haiti.

I want the Haitian government to introduce a legislation to the United Nations requiring workers of Haitian origin living overseas, in countries like the United States of America, Canada, France and others to pay taxes from their incomes to Haiti.

As a matter of fact I expect it to be a law passed by the Parliament of Haiti.

After the terrible earthquake on January 12,2010 that destroyed our country and killed so many of our people, the United nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced financial pledges from the international community totaling only 11.5 billion dollars to Haiti for the next ten years.

It is known that 4 billion dollars have been already spent in less than two years of the cataclysm.

Scores of people are still living under tents and unemployment is estimated at over 60%.

Obviously, the money promised to us by the Inter-American Bank for Development will never be enough to solve all of these problems.

Haiti to recover significantly cannot depend mostly on foreign aids. We need to find a way to rebuild the motherland and its capital Port-au-Prince as soon as possible.

Therefore, all Haitians living and working abroad must pay some taxes estimated at about 5% from their incomes or earnings to Haiti.

Whenever that is put in place to improve the living conditions of the Haitian people, President Michel J. Martelly and and other political leaders will deserve all of our praises.

This is a good idea, After the earthquake that happened in 2010 in Haiti, all haitians who are working overseas should contribute to the reconstruction of Haiti. They will have to make sure that the money is spent wisely in every department, not o more »
